Deutsch für Kinder

Children learn languages differently than adults. They absorb words, structure, and meaning naturally—especially when given the right environment. Our Deutsch für Kinder course helps children build confidence in German, whether they are just starting out or preparing for school.

For many children, German exposure is limited to the classroom. Without hearing it at home, reading German books, or watching German shows, they miss out on the everyday reinforcement that makes language stick. This course fills that gap.

At Helvetic Institute, we teach German the way children learn best—through conversation, stories, and play. They’ll pick up grammar and vocabulary naturally, gaining the skills to speak, understand, read, and write with ease.

What the Course Offers

  • In each lesson new German words for the topic are introduced. These words will later be used to understand the unit’s story, song and grammar item.
  • The words are then practised with interactive games and puzzles, so that the children can confidently say, understand, read and write them.
  • Some units teach more than one word group and each is presented and practised separately.

Teaching methods

  •  Every unit contains a simple animated story featuring our characters. The stories show the new language in real contexts and are also used to present the grammar item of each unit and practise the new words.
  • Follow-on activities include gap-fill activities and identification of grammatically correct sentences.

  • Songs are motivating and fun. They are also a very powerful learning method to help children remember the language they have learnt.
  • There are easy-to-learn songs.

  • New words are presented and practised in fun word games. The children learn to understand and say the words, then progress to recognising and forming the written words.
  • Word games include matching words, memory games crosswords and activities to listen and click.
  • Each unit contains three worksheets: words, grammar and letters and sounds.
